Local College Students Release 100 Seabass in Newport Harbor for Ocean Restoration Event
College students from the Newport Beach area came together this week for a hands-on ocean restoration effort, releasing more than 100 juvenile seabass into Newport Harbor’s waters. The event was part of a broader initiative to support marine ecosystems, improve habitat health, and raise awareness about local conservation challenges.
Participants worked alongside marine biologists and nonprofit partners, learning about the importance of species diversity and the role coastal habitats play in broader ocean health. The release event also included educational workshops on sustainable fishing practices, water quality monitoring, and how small, community-driven actions can contribute to long-term environmental resilience.
For Newport Beach residents, the project provided a tangible way to connect with marine stewardship and highlighted how young people are stepping up to protect the coastal environment they call home.
