Four Arrested After Gunfire Ends Bouncer’s Night Out on Balboa Peninsula

An altercation outside a bar on Balboa Peninsula escalated into gunfire Sunday night, leaving one man hospitalized with a foot injury. According to Newport Beach police, a confrontation between two men at Oceanfront and 23rd Street turned violent when one brandished a handgun and fired approximately three shots.

The injured man, believed to be a security guard or bouncer, received medical treatment and is expected to recover. Four suspects, all males from Riverside including an 18-year-old named David Pennington charged with attempted murder, were arrested shortly after the incident. One suspect was detained fleeing on foot, while the other three were tracked down by Huntington Beach and Costa Mesa law enforcement teams on the nearby freeway. Authorities also recovered a handgun during the sweep.

The investigation remains ongoing and police have urged witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
