Newport Beach Water Polo Girls Strike Gold Three Times at Junior Olympics
Newport Beach Water Polo Club had a historic showing at the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics in Irvine, capturing gold medals in three girls divisions: 10U, 14U, and 16U. The tournament was highlighted by the achievements of the Mack sisters—Maryn, McKenna, and Madison—each of whom earned a gold medal in her respective age group.
The 16U team, led by head coach Christina O’Beck, capped its dominant run with a 13–8 win over Santa Barbara 805 in the championship game. Gabby Alexson, an incoming junior at Newport Harbor High School and reigning Dream Team MVP, was named game MVP.
The 14U team edged Irvine Patriot 10–9 in a thrilling final, with CeCe Mesenbrink—an incoming eighth grader at Ensign—scoring two goals, notching four steals, and earning MVP honors.
This marks the first time Newport Beach Water Polo has secured three girls gold medals in a single Junior Olympics, a milestone achievement for the program and a showcase of its growing talent and depth.
